Lynene Allen of Danse Oriental

BIOGRAPHY

Lynene has been interested in Middle Eastern Dance/Belly Dance since she can remember.  Not only the “dance form”  but also the culture, music, and history. Lynene has studied under many world renowned Dance Instructors and have travelled to Egypt and  North America to further her education.  Lynene believes that Middle Eastern Dance is an “Art” form where the dancer interprets and expresses the music with her dance.

Lynene has been teaching in the Cowichan Valley since 1996 and is the Choreographer and Artistic Director for the Dance Troupe “Mirage”.  Mirage Dance Troupe has performed all over the Vancouver Island for Folk fests, Charities and Private Parties.  Lynene has performed many solos as well including various restaurants in the Duncan Area, at the McPherson theatre Oct. 2009 and Garage Showroom in Duncan.  Lynene also choreographed for the Shawnigan Lake Players for their production of Zorba (and performed as the Belly Dancer) and their Shakespeare production “As you like it”. Additionally, Lynene has done workshops for other Dance studios on Vancouver Island.  Lynene continues her education in music, studying the tabla and frame drum.

Middle Eastern Dance/Belly dance compromises of many dance styles.  For example; Folkloric, Raqs Sharqi (Egyptian Cabaret), Gypsy (the style, not the people), Persian, Debke, and Tribal (American Tribal Style).   Lynene has studied all of these dance forms and more, and believes the “dance” is a “dymanic” dance which is continually evolving as with the dancer.

Lynene loves to see the women she teaches  become more confident as they learn the dance form and instill the passion she feels for the dance to her students.  Technique is very important to Lynene and she believes you need a good “foundation” to build upon.

Lynene and / the troupe Mirage is available for your special event.
